This is an uncompressed HD version of the famous film. Not all machines and players can successfully play this film. It is suggested that you determine compatibility before attempting this massive download. A high-quality (DV25) version that may be easier to work with is located here: http://www.archive.org/details/TripDownMarketStreetrBeforeTheFire This file was made by SpyPost in San Francisco in fall 2010 from a new 35mm print made from a new duplicate negative made by Film Technology...

Stridently anti-Japanese film that attempts to convey an understanding of Japanese life and philosophy so that the U.S. may more readily defeat its enemy. Depicts the Japanese as "primitive, murderous and fanatical." With many images of 1930s and 1940s Japan, and a portentious and highly negative narration by Joseph C. Grew, former U.S. ambassador to Japan.

Some kind of compilation, mostly dupe shots A few shots of details of the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park Excerpts from post-earthquake footage, probably Edison, mostly poor quality; we hold better-quality copies of much of this material. Cars driving off ferry (from where, to where?): probably part of an auto race auto race at beach, brief PPIE crowds auto race, PPIE opening of Golden Gate Bridge, VS (not great quality) VS Golden Gate International Exposition

DV25 version (editable quality) of the famous film. Feel free to reedit/recombine/remix. Please consider uploading your derivative works to Internet Archive. This version was transferred from a new 35mm print made from a restored 35mm negative, which was made from our 1906-era 35mm print. The frameroll problem seen in other versions has been fixed.

Dramatization, apparently using models and miniatures, of a dam break. With scenes of aftermath and rescue operations. From Wikipedia: "The St. Francis Dam was a concrete gravity-arch dam, designed to create a reservoir as part of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. The dam was located 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Los Angeles, California, near the present city of Santa Clarita. The dam was built between 1924 and 1926 under the supervision of William Mulholland, chief engineer and general manager of...

Chilling post-earthquake footage, shot in the Western Addition and on Market Street in San Francisco. The first sequence (Western Addition) shows a great deal of evocative neighborhood detail from one hundred years ago.

PLEASE NOTE: A much higher-quality DV version (2.3 GB) now available at http://www.archive.org/details/TripDownMarketStreetrBeforeTheFire Pictures San Francisco's main thoroughfare as seen from the front window of a moving Market Street cable car, before the downtown area was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire. This unusual record has been called the first "structural film" because it follows exactly the externally imposed structure of the car ride. Here is a post from the...
